Band Auditions

Audition Materials & Information for the 2020-2021 School Year
can be accessed HERE

All returning and incoming students are required to audition to be placed in a Garfield Jazz Ensemble. Auditions will need to be conducted virtually this year. This will require students to submit a pre-recorded audio submission during the audition window listed below. Students are encouraged to read all support documents and instructions carefully.

Audition Submission Window:  Monday, May 25th – Monday, June 1st

Instructions for how to record an audition are available at the link provided above. Auditions should be submitted during the audition window to director@garfieldjazz.org.

Students and families can use this FORM to add a preferred email address to receive additional audition information at a later date.

Audition Support and Office Hours:
Students can request a virtual meeting with Mr. Sessink to review their submission choices, receive feedback or help, or ask questions. This should be managed by sending an email to request a time – jasessink@seattleschools.org

In early March, Mr. Sessink began the process of giving mid-year meetings with individual students to address their progress, goals, and provide feedback. This was interrupted by our sudden closure. Any student that has a class period ensemble should see a form on Schoology that will initiate the check-in process. Students in Band 3 who do not have Mr. Sessink in class (rhythm section) will need to email me to set up a time to have this meeting. We will conduct all meetings through Microsoft Teams.

Support videos to help students navigate transcribing for the audition will be made available to students after spring break.
