On November 19, Garfield Jazz Band
II took part in the 2011 Northshore Jazz Festival at the Northshore Performing
Arts Center in Bothell. The Garfield band was one of 21 high school jazz bands
participating, along with 11 middle and junior high school jazz bands. The
Garfield musicians arrived at 5:00 p.m. to watch other jazz bands perform
before their own performance at 6:40 p.m.
The band played four numbers:
"I Remember You," "Chico and the Man," "Bernie's
Tune," and "Again and Again." Mr. Acox assured the audience
members that he had explained to the students who Chico and the man were--the
students, of course, hadn't had a clue.
The performance was well-received by an enthusiastic audience, and, after the performance, the musicians attended a clinic.
