On November 17, Jazz Band I had its kick-off concert at the Quincy Jones Performance Center. Although many people were late because the Seattle contingent of Occupy Wall Street caused major traffic delays with the march on the Roosevelt Bridge, the audience was treated to a great concert.
The band has made noticeable strides since their performance at the Triple Door just a few weeks ago. The saxophone section benefitted from having Homer Alfs back after healing from having his wisdom teeth removed. Indeed, one number featured dueling solos with Homer and Cameron Vohr, both of whom were clearly having a great time. Ariel Loud had a lovely solo on Isfahan. The trombone section was also featured and sounded great. While for reasons unknown it was freezing in the lobby, the band warmed the auditorium up very quickly.
