2021/22 School Year: August Newsletter from Mr. Sessink

Garfield Jazz Families,

I hope that everyone is having a relaxing summer and enjoying some beautiful weather. As we approach the start of the 2021-22 school year, I’d like to share some important dates and information about jazz.

We are sharing a preliminary calendar of events so that families can begin to plan ahead for the school year. There are several regional jazz festivals that have not yet been announced, and some rehearsals, performances, and trips may be added later. Any required event will be announced as far in advance as possible, and we will not attend any event last minute. The Garfield Jazz Foundation website calendar will remain the most up-to-date calendar throughout the year.

Garfield Jazz Students & Families, I want to recognize the dedication and hard work that all of returning and incoming jazz students demonstrated through their audition submissions. Important parent/guardian meeting in January: don’t miss it!

Please plan to attend an important Parent/Guardian Meeting on Monday, January 6 at 7 pm in the Band Room (Room 219, Enter at Alder St). All parents/guardians should attend to learn about the very busy upcoming concert and performance season as well as volunteer opportunities. Both Mr. Sessink and Mr. Sundt will be on hand to provide an overview of how things are going, and answer questions.
